Baldwin and Lee win CoSIDA Academic All-America award
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pennsylvania – Penn State Athletes Jack baldwin (men’s gymnastics) and Nick lee (wrestling) were recently named to the At-Large 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America® team. Baldwin secured a place in the first team, while Lee was a winner of the second team.
Baldwin (Mexico, NY) earned Academic All-America recognition for the first time, adding to an impressive list of academic accolades he has received this season. He received the NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Elite 90 award, awarded to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA in their respective NCAA championships, and followed that up with a CoSIDA Academic All-District honor Baldwin, which earned a perfect 4.0 GPA as a mechanical engineering major, three times received the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar award, and won three All-Big Ten academic awards. Penn State Men’s Gymnastics has won eight Academic All-America awards, including four in the past five years.
Athletically, Baldwin was a mainstay of Penn State’s starting lineup as he competed on pommel horse. He helped the team win the Big Ten title in 2019 and competed in three NCAA Championships. He ended his career with his best national result, tied for eighth on pommel horse.
Lee (Evansville, Indiana) won his first CoSIDA Academic All-America® honor with his second team nod. Lee, the 2021 NCAA National Champion at 141 pounds, finished the season 13-1, including a perfect 6-0 score in Big Ten duels. Lee’s only loss came in the Big Ten Finals, a result he avenged in the NCAA title fight when he earned a 4-2 (sv) victory over Jaydin Eierman of Iowa in the national finals. Lee has had five majors and four tech falls this season. Lee has a career record of 96-13, is a four-time All-American and defending NCAA Champion.
Lee is a three-time All-Big Ten Academic Laureate and three-time Selected by the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic First Team. He will return for a fifth year of competition. The Penn State fight saw eight people win 10 first-team Academic All-Americans. Lee is the fourth winner of the second team.
The general teams of the CoSIDA Academic All-America® program include fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis and water polo for men and women, as well as beach volleyball, bowling, field hockey and rowing for women, and volleyball and wrestling for men.
