Divers win four titles at Mizzou Invitational

COLUMBIA, Missouri – The North Carolina diving team concluded a successful week of competition at the 2021 Mizzou Invitational on Friday night. The Tar Heels have won four of the five events they’ve entered Aranza Vazquez and Anton Down Jenkins each winning two events.

Montano claimed his second victory in three days, following Wednesday’s 1-meter title with a platform victory. She also won the bronze in the 3-meter on Thursday after securing the highest preliminary score.

Montano won first place in the 1 meter with a score of 322.90, finishing 31.70 points ahead of his teammate Paige burrell who won the silver medal with a final total of 291.20. Montano’s score of 303.60 on the platform was 15.30 points higher than second-place Melissa Mirafuentes Santilon of Wyoming.

Jenkins swept the men’s springboard events, winning the 1 and 3-meter competitions by wide margins. He finished 66.15 points ahead of compatriot Tar Heel Alexander Hunt in the 1m and 39.00 points ahead of Carlo Lopez of Missouri in the 3m.

Jenkins had a score of 396.05 in the 1m and 431.05 in the 3m.

The Carolina divers will be back in action Dec. 13-18 as they travel to Bloomington, Indiana, to compete in the National Winter Championships.
