Holland Christian swims to second place in D3 Invitational
Holland Christian’s boys swimming and diving team won a close final at their annual D3 Invitational.
The Maroons scored 395 points to finish behind East Grand Rapids (410) on Saturday at the Holland Community Aquatic Center. Spring Lake finished third with 251, followed by Grand Rapids Christian (247), Hamilton (238), Otsego (179), Manistee (147.5), Allegan (137.5), Milan (120), Chelsea (100) , Detroit Country Day (67) and Ludington (33).
Holland Christian’s Christian Hoeksema won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:00.22 and the 100 breaststroke (1:01.59) to lead the Maroons.
Ryan Windemuller was third in the 100m backstroke (57.46), while teammate Karsten Huisman was fourth (57.49). Jackson Horjus was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.23).
Blake Assink was third in the 200 freestyle (1:48.13). Parker Lambers was seventh (1:52.15). Assink also finished fourth in the 100m butterfly (53.44), one place ahead of teammate Basillio Ledesma (54.91). Lambers finished fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:07.86), one spot ahead of teammate Teddy Hollebeek (5:13.66). Horjus finished seventh in the 50 freestyle (22.95).
Ryan Windemuller of Holland Christian, Hoeksema, Ledesma and David Buursma took third place in the 200 medley relay (1:41.57).
In diving, Jeremy Mathews of Hamilton was third (364.35 points), followed by Sam Nykamp of Holland Christian, fourth (344.75).
Blake Thomas of Hamilton was fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.37) and Jackson Nyhof was seventh (1:05.37). Lewis Bueschel was fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:00.72). Zachary Boehm finished sixth in the 50 freestyle (22.88). Elliot Talsma finished eighth in the 200m individual medley (2:11.80).
