IIT Guwahati, Indian Register of Shipping to Collaborate on Underwater Technology

Guwahati, April 25 (SocialNews.XYZ) Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G) and Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on training, design and manufacturing with focus on technologies under -marines, engineering institute officials said Monday.

The IIT-G Technology Innovation and Development Foundation (TIDF) and the IRS would jointly organize training and certification programs and workshops.


The aim of these programs would be to develop skilled human resources and research personnel with industry-aligned skills in underwater design and manufacturing technologies, the IIT-G sources said.

Professor TG Sitharam, Director of IIT Guwahati, said that apart from developing technology, the institute was working on skills development.

Professor G. Krishnamoorthy, Dean of the IITG, said the IRS is synonymous with industry excellence in safety, security and environmental protection.

Collaboration between IIT-G and IRS on training and certification programs would help develop technologies for underwater exploration, he added.

IRS Vice President and Head of Research and Development Division Dr. Asokendu Samanta said, “This collaborative effort allows us to expand our training and certification programs as we seek to developing key skills in a rapidly developing sector of industry. The IITG and we look forward to working closely with each other.”
