Joey Essex rescued by emergency divers in terrifying trial I’m a Celebrity Australia
Joey Essex had to be rescued by emergency divers, after he became short of breath during an underwater test on I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! Australia.
The former The Only Way is Essex star became disoriented as he swam in icy water and began to lose oxygen as he swam under the icy surface.
In the challenge, which aired on the Australian version of the hit ITV show, the 31-year-old had to swim in an icy plexiglass-covered pool pierced with holes to get some fresh air.
The reality TV star then had to put her hand in a block of ice on the plexiglass filled with spooky critters to retrieve a star.

After Joey collected all the stars, he started swimming towards hosts Julia Morris and Chris Brown, when he became very disoriented.
The star struggled to find the holes in the glass and lost his way as he began to run out of oxygen.
The hosts quickly noticed that Joey was turning around and summoned the emergency diver who was waiting underwater to save Joey from drowning.
Julia shouted, “Oh my god. I’ll panic. Can we have the diver? “
The diver quickly swam over to Joey and helped him find one of the vents to rise to the surface and catch his breath.
After the terrifying event, Joey admitted that he started to panic underwater because he believed he was suffering from hypothermia while swimming in freezing temperatures in his swimsuit.
Struggling to catch his breath, Joey said, “It was intense. I couldn’t find the hole. The glasses had water in them. And it’s hard… You couldn’t… C it was difficult to find the holes.
“There were a few times I panicked hard underwater. I couldn’t breathe.”
Joey is the only British star to appear on the reality show along with nine other celebrities.
The reality TV star reprized the UK version of the show eight years ago, alongside model Amy Willerton, Westlife star Kian Egan and Lucy Pargeter from Emmerdale. He won the show and became the king of the jungle.
Last month, Joey was one of many UK residents to see his home badly damaged by storms.
His £ 3million bachelor pad in Essex was battered by bad weather, and he took to social media to show fans the damage to his jacuzzi and now broken swimming pool.
