Lehigh hesitates against Army in the double meet final
WEST POINT, NY – It was all night the Lehigh men’s swimming and diving team had expected, falling to Army West Point 194.5-94.5 Friday night at Crandall Pool in the final double meet of the season. The Mountain Hawks (2-5, 1-3 PL) drop their third straight meeting heading into the final weekend before the Patriot League Championships.
Lehigh collected four first-place finishes on the night, including a relay win that was a 1-2-3 finish for the Mountain Hawks.
Senior Owen Thomas earned Lehigh’s first win of the night in the 100-yard backstroke, swimming in a time of 51.06. Fifth year senior Joe Huber came in third at 52.16. Senior Glenn Lasco finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.96 and Miles Cox earned the last individual victory in the 200 yards IM (1:58.52).
The most impressive performance of the night came in the 400-yard freestyle relay as the Mountain Hawks took the entire podium with a 1-2-3 record. The team of Alex Patti, Aiden McCurley, Tim Norris and Connor Goodyear came in first with a time of 3:10.40. In second was Caleb Eberley, Janik Wing, Nick Lynam and Keagan Casey (3:16.32), while Andrew Soukach, Sean Davis, Jake Stafford and Connor Drucis finished third (3:27.08).
On the springboards, senior Addison Cochran earned two third-place finishes in the one-metre diving (246.53) and three-metre springboard (223.73).
Lehigh is taking part in the final meet before the Patriot League Championships next weekend at an ESU invite hosted by East Stroudsburg. The quadruple encounter will feature ESU, Kutztown and Millersville. The event starts at 1 p.m.
