KINGSFORD – Led by Liam McFarren, Colin VanderSchaaf and Andon Buyarski, the Marquette boys’ swim and diving team won at Kingsford 120-45 on Thursday.

Elena Henry had two wins as the Redette daughters took a much closer score of 99-70 against the Flivvers.

Both MSHS teams improved to 3-0.

“It was a great day in the pool for Marquette,” Head coach Nathan McFarren said in an email. “There were some great first swims and many lifelong records. “

McFarren, VanderSchaaf and Buyarski each scored three wins for the MSHS boys, with the top two winning two individual events and Buyarski one. Overall, Marquette won nine of 11 events.

McFarren won the 100 yard freestyle and 200 freestyle, each with fairly wide margins, while VanderSchaaf survived the competition in the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM, each by more than 10 seconds.

Buyarski added an individual victory in the 500 freestyle by nearly 45 seconds as the three boys were part of the winning team in the Redmen’s 200 free relay with Andrew King.

Buyarski also swam with the 400 free relay winners, joining Maverick Baldwin, Quinn Kerekes and Mason Doan.

Baldwin also won the 50 freestyle and King the 100 backstroke.

On the girls’ side, Upper Kingsford record holder Adelaide McRoberts proved difficult, winning two individual events and helping the Flivvers win a pair of relays as well.

Marquette edged Kingsford 6-5 in wins.

Henry won the 100 butterfly by less than a second over teammate Grace Sobczak, who won the 50 freestyle.

Henry also swam in the winning Redettes 400 freestyle relay with Hannah Winn, Maddie Wood and Kelsey Glover. They won by almost 30 seconds.

Her teammate Delaney Marchiol won the 200 IM, Ella Whalen the 100 freestyle and Natalie Schetter the 500 freestyle.

The Marquette teams are hosting a pair of meetups this week with Rudyard at 5 p.m. Tuesday and Eternal Powers Houghton and Sault Ste. Marie goes to MSHS at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
