Perham-New York Mills sets 15 personal bests at Fosston

The Perham-New York Mills women’s swimming and diving team claimed victory at the invitation of Fosston on Saturday while shattering personal bests in 15 events.

The most exciting run of the evening was in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The Yellowjackets were about 10 yards behind before the last game. Eighth-grade Taylor Ziemke posted his fastest 50-yard lead in history to get closer to the Warroad-Roseau-Greenbush-Middle River swimmer. The Perham team took first place by 0.53 seconds.

The Yellowjackets have won nine events and set two records in college. Elle McDonald added another qualifying action time in the 500-yard free, which broke her personal best 15 seconds.

The Yellowjackets have only three doubles games and real team sections in the regular season.

“It’s time to linger,” said Perham head coach, swimming and diving, Jensen Grimley. “The girls who qualified for the sections will swim a few extra events, while the girls who did not qualify will focus on the events in which they are closest. We have a lot of hard work ahead of us.”
