PIAA finalist Calista Oyerly commits to Georgetown for 2023
Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all Recruitment News. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who have supported them along their journey.
After being forced to change clubs twice during the Covid-19 pandemic in order to continue training, Calista Oyerly from the Hershey Aquatic Club announced that she will be joining Georgetown University to pursue her swimming career in the fall of 2023. Oyerly has bounced between the Hershey Aquatic Club and Keystone Aquatic Club since the start of the pandemic and is just coming to resume training with Hershey. She is entering her senior year at Hershey High School.
“I am grateful to announce my commitment to continue my college and swimming career at Georgetown University. Georgetown’s tradition of personalized cura, or caring for the whole person, is exactly what I’m looking for as I embark on my next chapter as a student-athlete. I feel blessed to have had the endless support of my family, coaches, teachers and friends. Thanks to Coach Jack for this opportunity. I can’t wait to compete as Hoya on the hill! HOYA SAXA! »
Oyerly specializes in freestyle and backstroke events and has been a runner-up in the PIAA State Swimming and Diving Championships eight times. In 2022, she reached the A final of the 50 freestyle, finishing 7th in 23.73. She also added a B final appearance in the 100 freestyle, finishing 14th in 52.18.
Last summer, Oyerly ended his long-course season with an appearance at the Futures Championships in Richmond. There she swam well enough to earn an appearance in the C final in the 50m freestyle, finishing 23rd in 27.51. She was slightly faster in the event’s preliminaries, swimming the best time of her life of 27.14. She also added lifetime records in the 100 backstroke (1:07.68) and 100 butterfly (1:06.89) preliminaries.

- 500 free – 5:03.08

The Hoya Women are coming off a season that ended with a 4th place finish at the 2022 Big East Swimming and Diving Conference Championships. Last season, the team’s freestyle sprint group was led by two subclasses, with Erin Hood leading the team in the 100 and 200 and Tia Thomas leading the team into the 50s. Thomas was just a freshman last season, while Hood was a sophomore.
Oyerly will be a huge addition to the team when she arrives on campus next fall, with times that would have been among Hoya’s best last season. Last year, Georgetown had no women below 51.0 in the 100 freestyle and only one faster than 1:50.50 in the 200. Oyerly’s lifetime records are already fast enough to rank in Georgetown’s all-time top 10.
Along with making an impact on the team, Oyerly will also be among the top swimmers in the conference in her events. With her lifetime record, she would have finished fourth in the 100 and 200 freestyle at the 2022 Big East Conference Championships.
