Police divers scoured a river after a missing student was last seen more than a week ago near a suspension bridge.

An underwater search team scours the river after Emmanuel Chikwa, missing for more than a week, was spotted on CCTV walking near a suspension bridge at 2.44am on Monday March 28.

The 18-year-old, who disappeared from his home on Sunday March 27, is described as black, 5ft 7in, short with a shaved head and wearing glasses.

More than a week later, police divers searched around the River Dee and Chester Bridge.

Sergeant Simon Owen said the University of Chester student’s disappearance “is extremely unusual” and that they are concerned for his well-being.

Mr Owen urged anyone who may have seen Emmanuel – or someone matching his description – to get in touch with them, as well as to call Emmanuel directly to contact the police to let them know he is “ safe and healthy.”

The University of Chester is using its social media accounts to help locate Emmanuel.

He said on Twitter earlier this week: ‘Unfortunately one of our students, Emmanuel Chikwa, is currently missing.

“We are increasingly concerned for his well-being and Cheshire Police have asked for our assistance in asking all staff and students if they may have seen Emmanuel since last Sunday.”
