SMSU SWIMMING AND DIVING: SMSU opens season at home with double victory | News, Sports, Jobs


MARSHALL – The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s swim and diving team opened its dual season at home on Friday night with a 145-94 victory over the University of Jamestown inside the Don Palm Natatorium.

SMSU is now 2-1 on the season, while UJ falls to 0-2.

Natalie Bohnert won two individual events and was also part of a relay team that won first place. She won the 200 medley yard in 2: 14.15 and the 100 butterfly yard in 1: 01.08.

Juliana Villa, Addi Schroeder, Bohnert and Maija Geier opened the competition by winning the 200-yard QN relay with a time of 1: 54.89.

Quincie Klein also won two individual events and took the victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11: 36.11, while teammate Abbie Christensen was second in 12: 01.49. Klein also won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5: 37.62.

MacKenzie Kallevig hit the wall first in the 100-yard freestyle at 55.64 and Villa was fourth at 56.98.

Geier also won first place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1: 02.72 and edging teammate Kendyl Near at 1: 03.90 and Christensen at 1: 04.64.

Near won another first time for the Mustangs in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1: 11.92.

Sarah McDonald was second in the 1-meter diving with a score of 166.05 and also was second in the 3-meter with a total of 186.15.

Southwestern Minnesota returns to action Nov. 6 at the Minnesota Morris Triangular.
