Swimming and diving set to compete at Liberty this weekend


UNIVERSITY PARK, Pennsylvania – The Penn State Women’s Swim and Diving Team will travel to Lynchburg, Va. This weekend for their third meet of the season and their second on the road. They will face Liberty and ECU at Liberty Natatorium on Friday October 29 at 6 p.m. and Saturday October 30 at 11 a.m.

The Nittany Lions enter this game after a week off. Two weeks ago, the women claimed a road victory over West Virginia after a 209-91 season opener over Navy.

Penn State women are led by older people Madison Murtagh and Marie schobel, each winning two individual events in West Virginia.

For his performance against the Mountaineers, Murtagh won the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week title. She won the 200 freestyle (1: 51.84) and the 500 freestyle in 4.57.21, finishing more than seven seconds ahead of her closest opponent.

Schobel led Penn State in sweeping backstroke events for the second time in two weeks. She won the 100 (55.09) and 200 (2: 00.32). Emma Harvey followed Murtagh to second at 100 (55.77) and third at 200 (2: 04.63) while Molly carson was third in 100 (56.62) and second in 200 (2: 03.32).

Opponent scouting
Liberty has won the CCSA Championship for the past three years and started their season with victories over Campbell and Marshall. The Nittany Lions last faced the Flames at home in 2019, winning 212-139.

ECU is 2-4 this season, with the two wins coming in the ECU Tri-Meet. Penn State will compete against ECU for the first time in program history.

The women’s team will be back on the road in Greensboro, NC for the NC State Invitational. The men’s and women’s teams will participate in the three-day event from Thursday November 18 to Saturday November 20.
