The Sycamore take to the road to face Illinois on Saturday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State hits the road to open the 2022-23 season as the Sycamores travel to the ARC Pool in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois for a Saturday morning doubleheader against the University of Illinois. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. ET with results available via Meet Mobile.

The Sycamores head to their first competition of the 2022-23 regular season after their preseason show Sept. 30 at the Vigo County Aquatic Center. The latest ISU pre-season tune-up saw Team Gray edge Team Blue in the competition, 175.5-120.5.

“We are delighted to kick off the official competitive season on Saturday,” the head coach said. Josh Christensen said. “Illinois is a strong program, so we know we’re going to face some tough competition right off the bat.”

The Sycamores had several athletes who placed among the best at the Blue-Gray Meet during their preseason competition with Andrea Putrimas (500 & 1000 free), Zoe Smith (1M & 3M Diving), and Alexandria Cotter (200 Free & 200 IM) all recording multiple wins. There were also several familiar faces on the Platanes podium with Marni Gray, Madie Rutan, Dorotea Bukvicand Alexa Szadorsky build the 2021-22 season with good starts.

A variety of newcomers to the 2022-23 Sycamore roster also picked up victories at the Blue-Gray Meet with Katie Dougherty (200 Vol), Smith, Peyton Heagy (100 free), and Kalli Agapios (200 Back) all picking up home wins in their first meeting on the ISU roster.

Indiana State and Illinois have met in the pool five times during their respective programs, with Fighting Illini winning four of the five contests. ISU picked up its first win in the series in the 2018 season after winning nine events en route to a 148-135 win.

The Sycamores have dropped each of their last two games against Illinois, including last year’s loss at the Vigo County Aquatic Center, 184.5-98.5.

“We always want to use every game as a learning opportunity over the course of the season,” Christensen said. “This weekend we will be looking to take a few steps forward from the intra-squad and continue to gain insights and experiences that will help us grow and improve as we go through the doubles meet season. of autumn.”

Indiana State continues the 2022-23 season with a UIC-hosted quadruple meet at Flames Natatorium Oct. 21-22. The Sycamores will face hosts Flames, Northern Iowa and Illinois State over the weekend. Friday’s competition is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. ET, while Saturday’s second day kicks off at noon ET.
