VFL Joey Reilman Joins Staff as Volunteer Assistant Coach

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee – VFL and program record holder Joey reilman joined the 2021-2022 Tennessee swim and diving staff as a volunteer assistant coach, the director of swimming and diving announced Matt Kredich.

“We are really lucky to be able to bring Joey reilman on our coaching staff this year, ”Kredich said. “Joey embodies all of the traits that we strive to champion and become as Tennessee volunteers. As an athlete here, Joey was relentlessly competitive, academically motivated, a student of the sport, a selfless teammate and community member, and a courageous leader. As a coach, he brings the same competitiveness and passion for poolside sport, along with a unique ability to connect with anyone on a personal level. He’s a fantastic addition to the team. “

Reilman, who swam for Flights from 2015 to 2019, holds the Tennessee School’s record in the 200 freestyle (1: 32.35) and 100 backstroke (45.35) as an individual, and he has is one of the fastest relays in UT at the 400 and 800. freestyles. In total, he holds 16 times as an individual and as part of a relay that ranks in the top 10 in Tennessee history. Seven of these brands are among the top two in the record books.

“I am honored and grateful to have the opportunity to be back on deck as a volunteer assistant this season for Tennessee Swimming & Diving,” said Reilman. “I love this program and the people who make it up, and look forward to serving this group every day as we pursue excellence. In my role, I try to be a positive presence on the bridge, to share the knowledge I have gained over the years and to be a bridge between athletes and coaches. “

The six-time CSCAA All-American winner took gold in the 200 backstroke at the 2019 SEC Championships to earn All-SEC first-team status. In that same competition, he also won silver in the 200 freestyle and bronze in the 100 backstroke and the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

Reilman graduated with a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in systems engineering.
