Warren’s posts sweep over Meadville at regional meeting | News, Sports, Jobs

MEADVILLE – Warren’s swim and diving teams left Meadville with a Region 3 sweep on Monday.

Katie Beyer and Kirsten Johnson notched two wins each in the Lady Dragons’ 90-71 victory. The Warren boys won 10 events in a 109-40 victory.

Hugh Harrison won the 200-yard freestyle, 100-meter backstroke and was in the winning 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay with Max Harrison, Derek Hahn and Graham Carr.

Max Harrison won the 50 and 100 freestyle and Hahn the 200 IM and 100 butterfly.

“Graham Carr had a big time drop in the 200 IM,” Warren coach Russ Beyer said. “He beat his previous time by four seconds. Graham also swam the 100 butterfly for the first time and had a fantastic result, just four seconds from the districts. Jarod Peterson also clocked a personal best in the 100 butterfly. He also crossed the 1:10 mark.

Brody Alexander won the 100 breaststroke and competed in the 200 freestyle relay with Ethan Monroe, Cristian Johnson and Connor Fehlman.

“Meadville was not at full power, due to contact tracing,” Coach Beyer said. “The kids performed really well.

“Maddie Walker finally eclipsed the time in the District 100m backstroke” he said. “She’s been so close the last two meetings. You could really see in her eyes that she had accomplished a feat.

“Sam Caudill was closer in his two events”, Coach Beyer said. “In the 200 freestyle and the 100 chest combined, she was a total of 0.50 seconds (off).”

Katie Beyer’s top spots were in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly, and Johnson in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke to lead Warren’s daughters.

The 200 medley relay team of Johnson, Sara Sokolski, Summer Lucks and Sophie Olson finished first.

Izabelle Heacox won the diving event.

“Our Lady Dragon divers have each set their personal best” Warren diving coach Matt Madigan said. “Izzy Heacox took first place with a 194.40 and qualified for the Districts. Alexia Bowers took second place with a 123.75.

The Dragons also swept Bradford on Friday.

In Warren’s 103-41 boys victory, Max Harrison won the 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter freestyle, Hugh Harrison won the 100-meter backstroke and 200 IM, Hahn won the 200-meter freestyle and 100 butterfly meters, and Peyton Haight won the 500 freestyle and Alexander the 100 breaststroke.

Carr joined the Harrisons and Hahn for the 400 freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay.

The Lady Dragons won 99-51. Beyer won the 50 freestyle and 500 freestyle, Johnson won the 100 backstroke and 200 IM, Olson won the 100 freestyle, Lucks won the 100 fly and Samantha Caudill won the 200 freestyle. Johnson, Beyer, Lucks and Sokolski won the 200 medley relay and Beyer, Lucks, Johnson and Olson won the 400 freestyle relay.
